Monthly Budgeting and Yearly Zakah – Project Based Learning

by | Mar 10, 2025

Zakah is the third pillar of Islam. It promotes solidarity and community in the Ummah and brings about growth and abundance. It is also an important aspect of financial planning, a yearly donation that must be calculated and given out based on personal finances.

Our 7th-grade students worked on projects demonstrating how to calculate the Zakah a person owes each year to deepen their understanding of the process. This comes as part of Bayaan Academy’s Project-Based Learning assessment approach that encourages students to explore the subjects they study beyond the classroom. These projects combined practical math skills with real-world application, helping students visualize the process of preparing to give out Zakah.

Today, we’re excited to showcase three outstanding student projects that break down this process in clear and engaging ways.

These student projects highlight the importance of thoughtful financial planning. By learning how to calculate Zakah correctly, students not only exercise their math skills but also gain a deeper appreciation for the principles of generosity and financial responsibility.

We invite you to take a moment to reflect on how Zakah is a meaningful act of giving that strengthens communities and reminds us to share our blessings.
